'Fast Forward I & II', by DM Rice

I

in the future there
will
be no such thing
as
preferred
pronouns,
only pronouns

in the future we
will
make things wrong
because the truth
is out there

the future will have
flying cars and
potable
water

the future will not
be syndicated

the future will be
yours
the future will be
theirs
the future will be
ours

a curling iron
wrapped
around the thread
of
possibility

the future will be
hostile
we will debt the
hearth
of our climate

the future is carbon
free

an algorithm
processing
creation
faster
than
the speed
of thought

the future will
break
gender
the future will quiet
life

the future will be
yours
the future will be
theirs
the future will be
ours

II

the future will be live
it will be a prime time
jive

in the future we will
cull the mass extinction
through automated intelligence

the future will be a dive

myriad voyers hanging
off the precipice of
misinformation

the future is royalty free

strikes will lead to dead
internment camps
where no
violence
needs uphold
the corporate strategems

the future is interchangeable

long live what passes for life
in the ecstatic horror
of genetic regulation

the future is cybernetic orgasm

by the time you read these words
we will already be there

by the time they come for me
no one left alive will stop
to stare
